JFK Air Train to Manhattan

Using the JFK Air Train and either the subway or the Long Island Railroad, you can get into Manhattan or anywhere in New York very cheaply. Take the Air Train to Jamaica station or Howard Beach and connect with either the subway or the Long Island Railroad (LIRR).

BART from SFO to San Francisco

On a long stopover in SFO we take public transport to downtown. The BART runs frequently from SFO to Embarcadero station, from where there are all sorts of sightseeing options. The cost is very reasonable, and there is no hassle for traffic. If you have a few hours on a layover in SFO, this is a great option to fill the time.

To get to the BART, we catch the SFO AirTrain to the Garage/BART stop. The AirTrain is free and runs every few minutes.

Singapore to Kuala Lumpur by Luxury Bus

Travel between Singapore and Kuala Lumpur is more difficult than it should be. Flying requires all the airport hassles including international departures and arrivals, and complicated security measures, all made more difficult since COVID. Rail travel is complicated and requires multiple transfers since the Malaysian Railway closed in Singapore many years ago. If you even have a car, the drive can be stressful.

One option is the bus. We were pleasantly surprised and will take this mode of transport in the future. All bus companies are not equal though, and the Transtar Solitaire seems to be the best of them.
