Independent Airline & Flight Reviews

Real Flights. Real Cabins. No Sponsored Opinions.

At Travel with Mark, our airline reviews are based on flights we have actually taken. We travel in everything from Economy and Premium Economy to Business and First Class, and occasionally on small regional aircraft and seaplanes where there may not be much of a choice at all.

We look at the whole experience — the airport, seat, cabin, service, food, entertainment and, most importantly, whether the flight represented good value for the fare or points we used.

Some of our travel benefits from airline status and upgrades, while other premium-cabin tickets are purchased outright or booked with points. We make that distinction where it matters. Our objective is not to tell you that every Business Class seat is wonderful or that every low-cost airline is terrible. We report the experience as we find it.

All of the reviews below are based on our own flights and include our video reviews where available. You can also watch our flight videos on YouTube.

We take an overnight flight from New York JFK to Dubai DXB on a 2 year old Airbus A380 in Business Class. The Emirates A380 Business Class is on the upper deck. This flight was very enjoyable, with excellent staff, food and beverages.

Unfortunately, the upstairs bar was closed on this flight due to Covid protocols, however it has since reopened. It was open for our return flight.

United from Newark Liberty to Sydney via LAX in Premium Economy and Polaris Business

We travel from Newark Liberty Airport in New Jersey, one of New York's 3 main airports to Sydney's Kingsford-Smith Airport, via Los Angeles (LAX) on United Airlines. Due to summer traffic disruption, our initial flight was canceled and we miss our chance to fly in a 787-10 and need to content ourselves with a 777-200 for the initial leg, and a 787-9 on the longer leg.

International Economy & Premium Economy

Air Asia X from Sydney to Kuala Lumpur

We take a nearly-empty Airbus A330-300 From Sydney, Australia to KLIA2 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This was a superb flight with great staff, a peaceful flight with no hassles (after departure). One of the best flights we've taken, although that's partially because the flight was so empty.

GOL Airlines Sao Paulo to Mendoza on a 737 Max-8

We catch a GOL Airlines (Gol Linhas AƩreas Inteligentes) flight from Sao Paolo Brazil to Mendoza Argentina in coach class on a Boeing 737 Max-8. As a lower cost airline, GOL exceeded expectation. The food, although simple, was very tasty, the crew were excellent, and although the flight was a little rough, was fun.

This flight was taken in the southern hemisphere summer of 2023

Singapore Airlines Economy Class from Singapore to Darwin, Australia

We take a flight on one of the world's best airlines from Singapore Changi airport to Darwin in the Northern Territory of Australia. This is an unusual routing to get to Australia, and frankly I don't understand why it is not more popular

U.S. Domestic First & Business Class

American Airlines Business Class Newark (EWR) to Miami (MIA) in a Boeing 737–MAX8

We catch a domestic Business Class flight between Newark Airport (one of the 3 principal airports for New York City) in a Boeing 737-MAX8. The route between Newark Liberty (EWR) and Miami is around 3 and a half hours, and there are multiple flights a day. We were originally booked in Economy (i.e. Coach) but were upgraded during boarding. This was a very early morning flight from the newest terminal at Newark Airport — Terminal A. Not many shops were open at this time, and we even had to wait for TSA to open. Departure time (wheels up) was just after 5AM.

The route between Chicago O'Hare (ORD) and Newark Liberty (EWR) is just a little over 2 hours, and there are United flights every couple of hours. Spirit Airlines Orlando to Newark

We take a budget airline, Spirit, from Orlando Florida to Newark, New Jersey. Spirit Airlines charges a low base fare and then charges for all services on top of that, which is a classic budget airline pricing strategy.
