We've taken many trips on Amtrak over the years. Train travel in the United States is truly unique, with a mix of semi high–speed rail in the North East Corridor (NEC), some slower long–distance trains between major regional cities, some state–funded routes in states such as Vermont and North Carolina, and the most interesting — cross–country trains through truly epic wilderness.
We have video reviews here on the Acela, in both First Class and Business Class. There is no Coach Class on the Acela. We travel New York to Washington D.C. in First Class, and a shorter segment on the same route and class traveling from New York to Philadelphia. We also taveled on First Class Acela from Boston to New York in First Class. We also tarveled in Business Class on the Acela from New York to Boston.
There are 2 different routes from New York to Chicago. We cover the Lake Shore Limited, which we did in a Roomette.
We traveled to St Albans Vermont in Coach on the Vermonter, stayed there overnight and took the Vermonter southbound again the next day. This is an epic trip in Autumn/Fall — unfortunately we were a couple of weeks early for that, but it was still a very pleasant trip
We've done 2 of the truly epic trips so far. We did th eSouth West Chief from Chicago to Los Angeles in Coach. We probably won't do it again, but it was a big, big 42 hour trip. We also did a trip in an Amtrak bedroom on the California Zephyr (although we got off 1 station stop short of the final destination). We were caught in a snow blizzard, which was great! We dont just travel on Amtrak though. For some of our other train journeys, check out our trains page.
